{"id":134,"date":"2013-10-18T15:11:26","date_gmt":"2013-10-18T15:11:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kilmoodplaygroup.org.uk\/?page_id=134"},"modified":"2013-10-18T15:11:26","modified_gmt":"2013-10-18T15:11:26","slug":"settling-in-policy","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.kilmoodplaygroup.org.uk\/index.php\/settling-in-policy\/","title":{"rendered":"Settling in Policy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-135\" alt=\"plane\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kilmoodplaygroup.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/plane.png\" width=\"128\" height=\"128\" \/>We want children to feel safe and happy in the absence of their parents, to recognise other adults as a source of authority, help and friendship and to be able to share with their parents afterwards the new learning experiences enjoyed in playgroup.<\/p>\n<p>Due care and attention must be paid to a child&#8217;s need for time to settle into any new environment.<\/p>\n<p>Some ideas on how to prepare your child before joining playgroup are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Parent and toddler groups<\/li>\n<li>Open day \/ Informal visit \/ Prospectus<\/li>\n<li>Talking it through (reassuring the child)<\/li>\n<li>Toilet training<\/li>\n<li>Books about playgroup<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The playgroup will:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Encourage parents\/carers to visit the playgroup with their children in the term before admission is planned, and provide staff with information on their child&#8217;s likes, dislikes, achievements and interests.<\/li>\n<li>Introduce flexible admission procedures, if appropriate, to meet the needs of individual families and children.<\/li>\n<li>Make clear to families from the outset that they will be supported in the playgroup for as long as it takes to settle their child there.<\/li>\n<li>Reassure parents whose children seem to be taking a long time to settle in.<\/li>\n<li>Encourage parents, where appropriate, to separate from their children for brief periods at first, gradually building up to a longer absences.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>First Session<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Have realistic expectations of children&#8217;s behaviour.<\/li>\n<li>For some children \u00bd &#8211; 1 hour is long enough.<\/li>\n<li>There is no hard and fast rule and no time limit set upon the settling in process.<\/li>\n<li>Parents are encouraged to stay with their child, for as long as necessary, for the child to be reassured that this new place and its people are safe as home.<\/li>\n<li>Children may bring a favourite toy if needed to help settle in.<\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t sneak out !!!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We want children to feel safe and happy in the absence of their parents, to recognise other adults as a source of authority, help and friendship and to be able&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":0,"parent":0,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","template":"","meta":{"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_active":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_note":"","_monsterinsights_sitenote_category":0,"ngg_post_thumbnail":0,"footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-134","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.kilmoodplaygroup.org.uk\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/134","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.kilmoodplaygroup.org.uk\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.kilmoodplaygroup.org.uk\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/page"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.kilmoodplaygroup.org.uk\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/3"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.kilmoodplaygroup.org.uk\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=134"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/www.kilmoodplaygroup.org.uk\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/134\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":136,"href":"https:\/\/www.kilmoodplaygroup.org.uk\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/134\/revisions\/136"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.kilmoodplaygroup.org.uk\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=134"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
